Photo transfers on fabric Templates:  These images are still in progress. The use of the female figure is again being explored - however hidden identity allows us to focus solely on the female figure and pose being created by each model.

 

 

 

The anonymity of the image makes the viewer focus on the body itself.

 

 

These images have been gathered from fashion illustration books along with fashion advertising. The have again been manipulated through photoshop - concealing the face and identity of the model in the photo.

 

 

 

The images have been pixelated so that the skin becomes textured. This was achieved through layering in photoshop - noise, half tones and pixilation.

 

These images are emphasizing the pose rather than the model and I feel that thee could be experimented with further and developed into larger scale pieces in combination with drawing and screen print.

Introduction of the Celebrity

Through research and contextual development todays culture is something which I wanted to experiment with in my development of the project.
 

The introduction of the Celebrity figure - female figure - became of pivotal importance in my work. It allowed me to manipulate imagery which surrounds us everyday and subsequently allows us to divulge into my ideas and thoughts on this topic.

While I wanted to imagery to have a contemporary outlook of female celebrity culture, it was important that the images didn't become too literal.

 

I wanted to use controversial imagery which have been in the public eye - using female celebrities who are known for their provocative nature and use of their body. 

Robin Thicke - Music Video - Blurred Lines

Controversial in 2013 for use of women in an erotic nature within his video.

The video subsequently got banned soon after release from the likes of  MTV and YouTube.

Photo shoots by Terry Richardson - Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus - again under scrutiny from the public in 2013 for their erotic and explicit poses.

 

Photoshop work layering popular celebrity images on top of each other. Application of noise and pixilation was intentional - a direct comment on advertising techniques.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fabric Sketchbook:

As part off my sketchbook research and development of ideas I created a fabric sketchbook which acted as a source of  experimentation within my studio practice. The images were applied to plain cotton fabric.

 

 



 

These images were then manipulated using paint, ink, glitter and pastel. I used found imagery as the basis for my image making but cut and paste them in order to create my own compositions. 

 

 

These images were later further developed through digital drawing on a larger scale.

Using the drawing tablet in multimedia and photoshop I was able to draw directly onto my found imagery using fine line detail.



 

The outcome of the drawings added an element of delicacy to the images which is something I would like to further develop through screen printing or digital collage.

 

These images are  A3 in size and were printed on photo matt paper. As a series I have picked four which I think were most successful compositionally.

 

 

 

 

 

Textured Fabric: Exploration of materials became important in the development of my work. Photo transfer materials were still applied - however this time I wanted to experiment with pattern rather than plain cotton.

Colour was another important element in this exploration of work as I had previously been working with mainly black and white imagery with little colour.

 

 

 

 

These images were sourced from a fabric sketchbook I had been working on. The images were scanned in and manipulated through photoshop. Then they were applied to photo transfer paper and sewn together.
